Diabetes care, the way a specialist practices it.

Type 1, type 2, prediabetes, insulin resistance, glucose monitors, and insulin pumps — diabetes and metabolism are the core of endocrinology. At Chia Endocrinology & Wellness, every visit is with Dr. Farhad Hasan, MD, MPH, a board-certified, fellowship-trained endocrinologist — in Wexford and by telehealth across Pennsylvania.

What a diabetes specialist sees that others miss

The right diagnosis first. Not all diabetes is type 2 — type 1 can surface in adulthood (LADA), and genetic forms (MODY) are easily mislabeled. Each is treated completely differently, so getting it right is where real care begins.

Therapy matched to you. GLP-1 and dual-agonist medications, newer insulins, smarter devices — Dr. Hasan chooses what fits your physiology, always working toward better numbers on fewer medications.

The whole picture. Blood sugar never travels alone. Weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, and insulin resistance move together — and an endocrinologist treats them as one, protecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart that diabetes puts at risk.

Diabetes-related conditions Dr. Hasan treats

Type 2 diabetes — treating the cause, not chasing the number

Most type 2 care only adds medications as numbers climb. There's a better path: treat the insulin resistance, weight, and metabolism underneath, and blood sugars often fall sharply — sometimes into remission, with no diabetes medication at all. The goal is honest and specific: the best control possible, on the least medication necessary.

Continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps, managed by a specialist

A continuous glucose monitor turns guesswork into data — but it only helps when an expert reads it. Dr. Hasan starts and fine-tunes CGM systems like Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre, along with insulin-pump therapy, catching the overnight lows, post-meal spikes, and patterns that change a dose.

Common questions about diabetes care

Should I see an endocrinologist for diabetes?
If you have type 1 diabetes, use insulin or a pump, have blood sugars that are hard to control, or want to pursue type 2 remission, an endocrinologist is the right specialist. Diabetes and metabolism are the core of the field — and the same physician follows you throughout.
Can type 2 diabetes be reversed?
Many people can achieve remission — normal blood sugars without medication — particularly when the disease is treated early and the underlying insulin resistance, weight, and metabolism are addressed together. Results vary by individual, which is why a thorough evaluation comes first.
How is your care different from a traditional endocrinology clinic?
At most traditional and hospital-based clinics, you wait months for a visit, often see a rotating resident or covering clinician, and get a brief appointment with little contact afterward. At Chia Endocrinology & Wellness, you see Dr. Hasan himself every time, are usually seen within days, get longer visits to review your numbers and plan together, and can reach him directly between appointments — the same board-certified, fellowship-trained expertise, delivered the way diabetes actually needs to be managed.
Do you manage CGMs and insulin pumps?
Yes. Starting, interpreting, and fine-tuning continuous glucose monitors — including Dexcom and FreeStyle Libre — and insulin-pump therapy is everyday endocrinology. Dr. Hasan reviews your data with you and adjusts the plan based on what it shows.
Can you help with prediabetes and insulin resistance?
Yes, and this is one of the best times to act. Treating insulin resistance and prediabetes early can prevent progression to type 2 diabetes and is often where the most meaningful, lasting change is possible.
Do you treat diabetes during pregnancy?
Yes. Gestational diabetes and pre-existing diabetes in pregnancy require careful, safe glucose control for both mother and baby — exactly the kind of close management an endocrinologist provides.
Do you take insurance?
Chia Endocrinology & Wellness is a direct-care practice and does not bill insurance. Pricing is transparent and shared up front. See pricing.
