- Thyroid cancer — evaluation & surveillance
The evaluation
Thyroid disease is rarely diagnosed well from a single TSH. Each evaluation includes comprehensive thyroid function testing with antibodies, a careful examination of the gland, and ultrasound imaging when nodules or enlargement are suspected.
Because thyroid symptoms overlap with perimenopause, low testosterone, and insulin resistance, the assessment considers the endocrine system as a whole — not the thyroid in isolation.
When to see an endocrinologist
Underactive thyroid
- Persistent fatigue or brain fog
- Unexplained weight gain
- Cold intolerance, hair loss, dry skin
Overactive thyroid
- Racing or irregular heartbeat
- Unintentional weight loss
- Heat intolerance, tremor, anxiety
Also appropriate: symptoms that persist despite normal labs, difficulty stabilizing thyroid medication, a newly found nodule, or a history of thyroid cancer requiring surveillance.
