The evaluation

Each evaluation includes comprehensive thyroid function testing with antibodies — free T4, free T3, and TSH read together, not a TSH alone — plus a careful examination of the gland, and ultrasound imaging when nodules or enlargement are suspected.

Because thyroid symptoms overlap with perimenopause, low testosterone, and insulin resistance, the assessment considers the endocrine system as a whole — not the thyroid in isolation.

Farhad Hasan, MD, MPH is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism and in Internal Medicine. A Fulbright Scholar with a Master of Public Health from Harvard, he completed his endocrinology fellowship at the University of Virginia and served as Associate Program Director of the Endocrinology Fellowship at Allegheny Health Network before founding Chia Endocrinology & Wellness in Wexford. Common questions

Do I need a referral to see a thyroid specialist?
No. Chia Endocrinology & Wellness is a direct-care practice — appointments are booked directly, and new patients are usually seen within one to two weeks.
My labs are normal but symptoms persist. Is further evaluation worthwhile?
Often, yes. A complete assessment goes well beyond a single TSH — free T4, free T3, and thyroid antibodies, read alongside the conditions that mimic thyroid disease, such as perimenopause, low testosterone, anemia, and insulin resistance. Persistent symptoms deserve a full answer, not a normal-range shrug.
I was told I have a thyroid nodule. Should I be worried?
Most nodules are benign — but every nodule deserves proper characterization: ultrasound to assess its features, and biopsy only when the imaging warrants it. Dr. Hasan evaluates thyroid nodules methodically and explains exactly what yours does and doesn't require.
Can you take over management of my thyroid medication?
Yes. Difficulty stabilizing levothyroxine or other thyroid medication is one of the most common reasons patients seek a specialist. Dosing is adjusted to your labs and your symptoms together — and followed over time by the same physician.
Do you manage Hashimoto's and Graves' disease?
Yes — autoimmune thyroid disease is core endocrinology. Hashimoto's and Graves' disease are diagnosed with antibody testing and imaging where indicated, then managed for the long term.
Is telehealth available for thyroid care?
Yes. Lab review, medication management, and follow-up work well by secure video anywhere in Pennsylvania and Ohio, with labs drawn near your home. When a nodule or enlargement needs hands-on examination or ultrasound, Dr. Hasan will say so and arrange it.
Do you take insurance?
Chia Endocrinology & Wellness is a direct-care practice and does not bill insurance for visits. Labs and most medications typically bill to your insurance as usual; an itemized superbill is available on request. See pricing.
