Specialty endocrine care for Pittsburgh — without the six-month wait

Across Greater Pittsburgh, finding an endocrinologist who actually has time to listen has become genuinely hard. Wait times at the large hospital systems routinely run six months or longer, and the visit — when it finally comes — is often fifteen rushed minutes with whoever is available that day. Meanwhile, the void has filled with med-spas, storefront “T clinics,” and direct-to-consumer telehealth platforms (Hims, Hers, and the like) that hand out prescriptions off a single lab value and never look for the cause.

Chia Endocrinology & Wellness was built as the alternative. Dr. Farhad Hasan is a double board-certified endocrinologist whose Wexford office sits about 20 minutes north of downtown Pittsburgh. You see Dr. Hasan at every visit, you can reach him directly between appointments, and because the practice is membership-based rather than insurance-driven, the focus stays on your health — not on coding a visit. Pittsburgh patients come to Chia Endocrinology most for testosterone, menopause and perimenopause, GLP-1 weight loss, thyroid disease, PCOS, and diabetes.

Downtown, Oakland, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, the North Side and South Side, Fox Chapel, and communities throughout the North and South Hills — in person in Wexford, or by secure telehealth anywhere in Pennsylvania.

Why a real endocrinologist — not a med-spa or a telehealth platform

Hormones and metabolism are an endocrinologist’s entire field. A low testosterone level, a stalled thyroid, or weight that won’t move is usually a signal of something deeper — sleep apnea, insulin resistance, thyroid or pituitary disease, medications, or nutrition. Dr. Hasan finds the cause first, confirms treatment is safe, and monitors it over time. A prescription takes minutes; the diagnosis behind it is what protects you.

It is also a matter of ethics. Unlike a profit-driven med-spa, a TRT clinic, or a direct-to-consumer telehealth platform, Dr. Hasan practices medicine the way it is meant to be practiced — he cares for every patient the way he would care for his own family. Before any treatment or prescription, he walks you through the benefits, the risks, and the alternatives, so the decision is one you make together and fully understand.

Chia Endocrinology & Wellness

A double board-certified endocrinologist evaluates you directly, orders correctly timed labs, finds the cause, and builds a plan around your whole health. Unhurried visits, direct access, ongoing adjustment — the standard of an academic center, in a concierge setting.

Med-spas, TRT clinics & telehealth platforms

Typically a quick questionnaire, a prescription driven by one lab value, and a rotating clinician who isn’t a hormone specialist. Convenient — but rarely a real diagnosis, rarely fertility- or safety-aware, and rarely the same physician twice.

Common Questions

What patients ask us most

Can you tell me briefly how your practice is different from other endocrinology practices?

Two things, mainly. First, this is direct specialty care: you see Dr. Hasan — a double board-certified endocrinologist — at every visit, appointments are unhurried, and you can reach him directly in between, rather than a fifteen-minute slot with a rotating provider. Second, it is a matter of ethics: Dr. Hasan cares for every patient the way he would care for his own family. He finds the cause before treating, and he always explains the benefits, the risks, and the alternatives so the decision is one you make together.

Does Dr. Hasan offer TRT for patients with low testosterone?

Yes — and as an endocrinologist he does it properly. Care starts with correctly timed morning labs and a real diagnosis of why your testosterone is low, followed by a fertility conversation before any therapy begins. Treatment is individualized and monitored over time, not handed out from a single number. Learn more about testosterone care.

Can Dr. Hasan prescribe GLP-1 medications such as Zepbound, Mounjaro, or Wegovy?

Yes. Dr. Hasan prescribes GLP-1 and dual-agonist medications and manages them as an endocrinologist — with appropriate dosing and micro-dosing, muscle-preservation guidance, and long-term follow-up. When manufacturer samples are available, he is glad to provide them to help you get started. Learn more about medical weight loss.

My labs came back “normal,” but I still don’t feel like myself. Can you help?

Often, yes. A result inside a lab’s reference range is not always the right result for you, and how you feel matters. Dr. Hasan reads your labs in the full context of your symptoms and history — the kind of careful interpretation a rushed visit rarely allows — and looks for what a single number can miss.

Do you take insurance, and how does payment work?

Chia Endocrinology & Wellness is a direct-care, membership-based practice and does not bill insurance — deliberately, so visits stay unhurried and decisions stay between you and your doctor. Membership is transparent and typically HSA/FSA eligible; any labs or imaging are billed through your own insurance separately. See pricing.

Will my insurance cover the labs, testing, or imaging Dr. Hasan orders?

Yes, in most cases. Although the practice itself is membership-based, the labs and imaging Dr. Hasan orders are performed at outside facilities — Quest, Labcorp, AHN, or UPMC labs, or the lab of your choice — and billed directly to your insurance, exactly as they would be with any physician. Depending on your plan, some of that cost may apply toward your deductible. And for patients who are uninsured or underinsured, we’re able to pass along the deeply discounted lab pricing extended to our practice — one of the quiet benefits of membership.

Do I need a referral, how soon can I be seen, and do you offer telehealth?

No referral is needed. Most new patients are seen within one to two weeks — a real contrast with the six-month endocrinology waits common at the large Pittsburgh systems. In-person visits are in Wexford, about 20 minutes from downtown via I-79, and secure telehealth is available across Pennsylvania.
